PeaceFLIX Awards Honour Pakistan’s Dedicated Peacebuilders

Islamabad: The crucial role of Pakistani women in peacebuilding came to the forefront during the collaborative two-day conference held in Islamabad.
The Global Neighbourhood for Media Innovation (GNMI), alongside the East-West Centre (EWC), hosted the two-day conference in Islamabad to recognise the significant contributions of Pakistani women in peacebuilding as well as the supportive role men play in this endeavour.
The event emphasised how the media can catalyse change in the face of multifaceted crises.
With leaders from diverse sectors present, discussions centred on the pressing need to combat extremism for long-term stability, echoing sentiments echoed by key figures such as the interim Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting.
During her speech, Najia highlighted GNMI’s dedication to countering radical narratives and stressed the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing the root causes of conflict.
Suzanne Vares-Lum, President of the East-West Centre (Hawaii, US), also emphasised the crucial role of women in peace promotion and the significance of global partnerships in diplomacy.
In his keynote address, Murtaza Solangi, the interim Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, emphasised the urgency of combating extremism and praised the efforts of law enforcement agencies. He underscored the media’s role in promoting a peaceful and inclusive society.
Ahsan Iqbal, the General Secretary of PMLN, discussed the complex nature of peace, highlighting the various political, social, and economic factors influencing it. He expressed concern over societal divisions and advocated for evidence-based policymaking and stakeholder engagement in crafting comprehensive peace strategies.
The conference concluded with the PeaceFLIX Awards ceremony, honoring twelve peacebuilders from different regions of Pakistan for their outstanding contributions to national peace promotion.
