PSL 9: Zalmi Clinches Thrilling Victory Over Sultans

Islamabad: In the 9th match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 9, Peshawar Zalmi clinched thriling victory over Multan Sultans in an exciting match today (Friday).
Chasing Peshawar Zalmi’s target of 180 runs, the previously undefeated Multan Sultans were all out for 174 runs. With this victory, Babar Azam XI secured a win in the event.
David Malan of Multan scored 52 runs, Yasir Khan scored 43 runs, and Reese Henriques contributed 28 runs. However, Captain Muhammad Rizwan, Khushdil Shah, Iftikhar Ahmed, Usama Mir, David Valle, Abbas Afridi, and Shahnawaz Durmani returned to the pavilion without significant scores.
Peshawar Zalmi’s Arif Ayub claimed 3 wickets, while Salman Irshad, Naveen ul Haq, and Luke Wood took 2 wickets each. Paul Walter secured 1 wicket.
In their innings, Peshawar Zalmi posted 179 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs. Haseebullah scored 37, Babar Azam scored 31, Romain Powell contributed 23, Mohammad Haris scored 19, and Asif Ali scored 13. Luke Wood remained unbeaten with 17 runs.
For Multan, David Valle, Muhammad Ali, and Usama Mir claimed 2 wickets each, while Shahnawaz Dhani and Abbas Afridi took 1 wicket each.
Despite this defeat, Mohammad Rizwan’s team led the points table in PSL 9, while Babar Azam’s XI climbed to the 5th position.
This was Peshawar Zalmi’s third match, having lost the toss and batted in all three matches. They suffered defeat in the first two matches.
On the other hand, this was the fourth match for Multan Sultans, having won all three previous matches. However, they faced defeat in this match. Rizwan XI has now suffered defeat in 2 out of their last 12 matches in PSL.
Multan Sultans had won against Peshawar Zalmi in their last 5 consecutive matches, but today, Babar Azam XI emerged victorious. In PSL 2024, Rizwan XI has defeated Karachi Kings, Islamabad United, and Lahore Qalandars.
