New Virus Surfaces in Karachi Amid Weather Shift

News Desk

Islamabad: Dr Halar Shaikh, a registrar at Jinnah Hospital in Karachi, has highlighted that adenovirus cases are on the rise in the city due to climate change.

He emphasized that as the weather shifts, a significant number of individuals are contracting the viral infection known as ‘adeno’.

Typically, adenovirus manifests with symptoms such as cold, cough, and fever, with patients usually recovering within 2 to 3 days.

However, Dr Halar cautioned that certain vulnerable groups, including the elderly, asthmatic individuals, and those with diabetes, need to be particularly vigilant. If proper nutrition and care are lacking, adenovirus infections can progress to pneumonia.

In light of these concerns, Dr Halar advised taking preventive measures against the virus. He recommended avoiding handshakes and refraining from eating out in such weather conditions to minimize the risk of contracting adenovirus.
