AIOU Approves Fresh Diploma Courses

Islamabad: The Academic Council of Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) sanctioned the introduction of fresh diploma and certificate programs.
A joint session of the 50th Academic Planning and Development/Research and Educational Technology Committee (APD/RET) and the 66th Academic Council of AIOU convened on Monday.
The meeting, chaired by AIOU Vice Chancellor Dr Nasir Mahmood and organized by Registrar Raja Umar Younis, was attended by department heads, principal officers, and external members.
During the council meeting, the minutes of the preceding session were unanimously endorsed. Furthermore, the council ratified new courses and modifications in the titles and content of various BS, MS/MPhil, and PhD courses.
Among the endorsed initiatives were the launch of PhD in Agricultural Technology, M.Phil. in Gender and Women Studies, PGD in Counter Violent Extremism and Terrorism, International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), medical microbiology, molecular diagnostics, climate change and sustainability, public health and nutrition, sustainable environmental design, along with certificate programs in Arabic, Tajweed Ul Quran, and criminology.
Additionally, skill-based courses in chemistry and 3-month short courses were also approved.
Dr Nasir Mahmood instructed faculty members and deans to adhere to the policies of the University and Higher Education Commission while developing courses and instructional materials. Welcoming the new members, he pledged to exert all efforts towards enhancing the quality of education.
The final approval for these decisions will be sought from the Executive Council, the supreme body of the university, in the upcoming meeting.
