Islamabad: Women from diverse age groups, political affiliations, and constituencies have energetically contested the 2024 general election, signaling progress in gender equality.

The election results, as reported by a private news channel, indicate women making significant strides in various constituencies.

Nafisa Shah, a Senior Leader of the PPP, emphasized that the active involvement of women in politics and elections is a fundamental democratic practice crucial for addressing women’s issues. She stressed the importance of promoting women’s political participation as a vital step towards achieving gender equality and enhancing the country’s positive global image.

Rehana Imtiaz Dar, a contender in the election, conveyed her unwavering commitment and dedication to the nation’s well-being. She expressed confidence in securing victory in the polls, citing her extensive social work as a foundation for her candidacy.

A young individual, acknowledging the active involvement of women in the 2024 general election, emphasized the significance of evaluating progress in bridging gender inequities in Pakistan through the representation of women in Parliament.

A female social media user highlighted the emergence of courageous women candidates as an inspiring narrative of change and progress, signaling a transformative era in the political landscape.

Providing details on female candidates in the election, Seemabia Tahir from Rawalpindi noted an improvement in the overall turnout of women voters compared to the previous year, considering it a positive development that a substantial number of women actively participated in the election.

Rehana Imtiaz Dar, a former MNA from Lahore, and Alia Hamza Malik also commended the role of women in politics. Ayesha Nazir Jatt, daughter of former MNA Nazir Jatt from Vahari, observed women conducting door-to-door campaigns against male candidates, advocating for the exercise of the right to vote.

Talat Basra, wife of Shaukat Basra from Bahawalnagar, expressed that the participation of women in the electoral process was rapidly increasing, unlike in the past, and highlighted the growing awareness among Pakistani women about their political participation rights.
