KP Launches First Phase of Anti-Polio Drive

Peshawar: The first phase of the anti-polio drive has been launched across Peshawar, Mardan, Kohat, Malakand, Hazara divisions, and Bannu district in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

The campaign’s primary objective is to administer oral polio drops to over 7.476 million children below the age of five.

The Health Department official confirmed the campaign’s initiation in all districts within the specified divisions. A robust force of 31,392 trained polio workers has been organized, comprising 27,924 mobile teams, 1,958 fixed teams, 1,337 transit teams, and 173 roaming teams, actively engaged in administering vaccinations throughout the province.

To ensure effective supervision, 6,956 area in-charges have been deployed to oversee the anti-polio teams. Additionally, a security detail involving 53,500 police personnel has been assigned to safeguard the polio teams during their vaccination missions.

The subsequent phase of the anti-polio campaign is scheduled to commence in the first week of December, following the completion of this initial phase.

This concerted effort aims to protect young children against the threat of polio and marks a significant step in the ongoing battle against the disease in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
