Islamabad: The Ministry of Health, with the collaboration of provincial governments, will soon launch 25 awareness campaigns in 2024 about the importance of maternal nutrition and improve the capacities of health workers in the public and private sectors.

Ministry of Health Director General Baseer Khan Achakzai informed that the campaigns will be held in 67 selected districts that report poor maternal nutrition indicators.
Improving the knowledge and capacity of healthcare providers to address maternal nutrition issues and promote a collective responsibility approach is the need of the hour, Baseer Khan stated.
As every year around 53,000 Pakistani children die of diarrhoea after drinking unsafe water, Achakzai stressed the need for provincial governments to formulate a long-term action plan to expand the scope of nutrition and rural people’s access to safe drinking water.

Our aim is to improve the quality of water supply and ensure access to safe drinking water for the population deprived of it, Baseer Khan added.
Baseer suggested that Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan governments should approve water policies and laws related to improving water quality, making it mandatory to check water once a year. Additional input from APP.
