Islamabad: Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar directed the concerned authorities to engage religious scholars, teachers, parents and all stakeholders to play a key role in the complete eradication of the polio virus and become part of the awareness campaign in the country.
Chairing a meeting of the National Task Force for the eradication of polio on Monday, Kakar stated that the nation would celebrate the day when every child in the country would be fully safe from this disease.
It is a fact that all the religious scholars, including Imam-e-Kaaba, have declared the polio vaccine absolutely safe and imperative for the future of children to be without disabilities, Anwaar added.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister directed to ensure the security of polio workers during the anti-polio campaign.
Expressing concern over reports of the polio virus in the three districts of the country, PM Kakar directed a special anti-polio campaign in areas where the polio virus has been reported.
The meeting was also informed that Sindh, Punjab, and Balochistan provinces, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir have been completely free from the poliovirus. However, two cases are reported in the Bannu district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
The meeting was informed that, compared to the 20 cases reported in the country in 2022, only two cases had been reported this year which is mainly due to the continuation of anti-polio campaigns at the national level.
Caretaker PM appreciated the Ministry of Health, the National Task Force, provincial governments and administrations, and law enforcement agencies for their tireless efforts in eradicating the polio virus from the country.
We are grateful to the international partners for their active participation and key support in the Pakistan National Polio Programme, he added. APP
