PIC Introduced New Device To Protect Cardiac Patients From Stroke

Peshawar: The Peshawar Institute of Cardiology (PIC) has achieved a significant milestone by implanting a new technology device in the heart of a 71-year-old woman with heart disease.

This pioneering effort, the first of its kind in Pakistan, introduced a cutting-edge device technology designed to protect heart patients from the risks of stroke.

PIC Spokesperson informed that a team of PIC cardiologists and UK-based Cardiologist Dr David Hildick-Smith performed the groundbreaking procedure.

British Doctor said that it was surprising to me to do such a case and to see such a setup in a government hospital in Pakistan. This is a new day for Pakistan as many lives can be saved with this technology, David added.

PIC Cardiologist Assistant Professor Mohammad Waleed said that patients with irregular heartbeats are at risk of developing blood clots in the heart.

Heart disease patients are given blood thinners, which increase the risk of bleeding in various sensitive parts of the body. The left atrial appendage (LAA) closure device is a hope for such patients, Dr Waleed added.

PIC Medical Director Professor Shahkar Ahmad Shah appreciated the efforts and dedication of his medical team and administrative staff members over the accomplishment.

All kinds of international technology and methods of treatment are the commitment of the PIC administration. PIC will be made according to international standards so that the patients of the province and the whole of Pakistan do not have to go outside, Dr Ahmed Shah added. Agencies/APP
