85 countries, 1.5 million students, 3 Pakistani winners

ISLAMABAD: Pakistani students have won the international information technology competition held in China, in which 150,000 students from 2,000 universities of 85 countries participated.
Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Huawei Pakistan Ahmed Bilal Masood said that the success of Pakistani students studying in dilapidated schools in Huawei’s global competition shows that there is no substitute for dedication and hard work.
According to a report in a local newspaper, Ahmed Bilal was speaking at a ceremony held in honour of Satish Kumar, Bhagchand Meghwar and Iqra Fatima, winners of the Sixth Wave ICT Competition for the year 2021-22.
The above-mentioned Pakistani students were able to defeat the competitors from different parts of the world in the finals of this international competition held in Shenzhen, China.
The participants of the event were told that Satish Kumar belongs to a remote village in Tharparkar which is not even visible on the map while Bhagchand Meghwar belongs to a village in Dadu district.
Bilal Masood said, “This proves that no one in Pakistan can now say that they don’t have the resources or internet at home or proper support to make a name for themselves, walls in schools for these students.” They were not even where they used to go for primary education.
He said that ‘Similarly, the third member of the winning team is a girl, if she can face the difficulties, why can’t others’.
Iqra Fatima hails from Bahawalpur and studied at Bahawalpur University while the other two students studied from Mehran University Jamshoro.
The competition is launched annually by Huawei and is initiated at the local level to encourage students and recent graduates to excel in the Information Technology (IT) field.
In Pakistan 2021, six out of nearly 12,000 applicants were selected and Huawei organizers formed two teams for Pakistan, Satish Kumar led team one which defeated the rivals in the finals of the global competition. The winning streak continued.
More than 150,000 students from more than 2,000 universities in 85 countries around the world were given the opportunity to participate in this competition.
The team that won the first position in the competition was given a prize of 20 thousand dollars while all the participants were given mobile phones.
Director of Public Relations Wu Han said that the success of the 2021 competition has shown that Pakistani youth have great potential for development.
