80% of Chest Lipomas Harmless: BINO Director
News Desk
Bahawalpur: The Director of the Bahawalpur Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Oncology (BINO), Dr Iftikhar Aalam, stated on Wednesday that 80 percent of chest lipomas are non-cancerous and pose no serious health risks.
Addressing the media, Dr Aalam dispelled common misconceptions about lipomas, emphasizing that while many people fear these fatty growths, the majority have no link to cancer. He reaffirmed that, according to medical science, most chest lipomas are benign and should not be a cause for concern.
He further explained that lipomas develop due to fatty deposits in the body and are not necessarily indicative of malignancy. A lipid profile test—commonly conducted in medical laboratories—assesses cholesterol levels, triglycerides, high-density lipoprotein (HDL), low-density lipoprotein (LDL), and very-low-density lipoprotein (VLDL), providing insights into overall health.
However, Dr Aalam advised women experiencing chest pain to seek medical evaluation, as early diagnosis is crucial for effective treatment. He also highlighted BINO’s commitment to providing free medical treatment to a large number of cancer patients.
