Islamabad: Medical experts revealed that around 70 percent of Pakistanis up to middle age are suffering from baldness, with a noticeable increase in hair loss cases among both men and women. This surge in hair loss cases has prompted the Hair Transplant Society of Pakistan to announce plans to train 1,000 surgeons to meet the growing demand for hair transplant procedures across the country.

According to experts, approximately 30 million Pakistanis are currently experiencing hair loss. However, there are only about 150 qualified hair transplant surgeons available nationwide, a stark contrast to the estimated requirement of 5,000 specialists.

Dr. Rana Irfan, President of the Hair Transplant Society, addressed the issue during a recent seminar, explaining that hair loss affects individuals at various stages of life. “In Pakistan, 20 percent of individuals begin losing their hair in their 20s, 40 percent by their 40s, half by their 50s, and 70 percent by their 60s,” he said.

While hair loss has traditionally been associated with men, experts warn that women are increasingly experiencing baldness as well. Factors such as genetics, medical conditions, and stress are contributing to this growing trend.

Dr. Jawad Jahangir, a renowned hair transplant expert, emphasized that genetic predisposition, whether from the mother’s or father’s side, remains a leading cause of hair loss. However, he pointed out that illnesses like typhoid, mental stress, and other medical conditions also play a significant role in the problem. “With proper precautions, hair loss can often be prevented,” he noted.

The Hair Transplant Society’s decision to train 1,000 new surgeons aims to provide safer, higher-quality treatment options for the public, especially in light of concerns about unqualified practitioners jeopardizing patient safety. By building a more robust, regulated workforce, the Society hopes to combat the rising trend of medical malpractice within the hair transplant industry.
