54 Years On, Pakistan Remembers Its Fearless Tank-Hunter

Rawalpindi: Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir on Tuesday paid solemn tribute on the 54th martyrdom anniversary of Sowar Muhammad Hussain Shaheed, Nishan-e-Haider.
According to an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) statement, the Armed Forces remembered with profound respect the extraordinary courage displayed by Sowar Muhammad Hussain Shaheed during the 1971 war in the Zafarwal–Shakargarh sector. He bravely identified advancing enemy armour and guided recoilless rifle crews with exceptional accuracy.
“His fearless actions resulted in the destruction of multiple enemy tanks and decisively influenced the battlefield situation. In the midst of this heroic resistance, he embraced shahadat after being hit by enemy fire, leaving behind a legacy of unparalleled devotion, duty and patriotism,” the statement said.
ISPR said the sacrifice of Sowar Muhammad Hussain Shaheed stands as a timeless symbol of resolve and reflects the unwavering commitment of Pakistan’s Armed Forces to defend the nation’s sovereignty at all costs. His courage continues to inspire generations of soldiers dedicated to safeguarding the country.

“As the nation pays heartfelt tribute to this gallant son of Pakistan, we reaffirm our collective resolve to honour the sacrifices of all martyrs, whose bravery and selflessness illuminate the path to a stronger, secure Pakistan,” the statement added.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi pays tribute to war hero
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also paid rich tribute to Sowar Muhammad Hussain Shaheed on his martyrdom anniversary, calling him a symbol of unmatched bravery whose heroism on the Shakargarh front remains etched in national history.
“I salute Sawar Muhammad Hussain Shaheed, who carved a new legacy of courage on the Shakargarh battlefield,” Naqvi said. He noted that the martyr continued to identify enemy positions under intense shelling and gunfire, offering critical intelligence that significantly strengthened the Pakistan Army’s tactical advance.
Naqvi said Sowar Muhammad Hussain Shaheed embraced martyrdom while pinpointing enemy gun positions “until his last breath,” adding that his sacrifice remains a shining example for every soldier of the Pakistan Army.
“His heroism sends a clear message to the enemies of Pakistan — every one of our soldiers considers laying down their life for the country the highest honour,” the minister stated.
