Hyderabad: A review meeting of the ongoing polio eradication campaign, conducted under the National Immunization Days (NIDs), was held on Friday at the Commissioner’s House in Hyderabad.

The meeting was chaired by Divisional Commissioner Bilal Ahmed Memon and attended by Deputy Commissioners, District Health Officers (DHOs), police officials, and representatives from the People’s Primary Healthcare Initiative (PPHI), Emergency Operations Center (EOC), and other relevant agencies across the Hyderabad division via video link.

During the session, Deputy Commissioners presented detailed briefings on the progress and challenges of the current anti-polio campaign in their respective districts. Commissioner Memon highlighted that the current drive was better organized than previous ones, with a special emphasis on addressing vaccine refusals.

He noted that the summer season has contributed to improved outreach, as more children are at home, resulting in significantly higher vaccination coverage.

Officials informed the Commissioner that in Matli, 300 polio refusal cases were reported in a single village, all of which were successfully resolved with the intervention of a Member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA). Similarly, 200 refusal cases in Johi were addressed with the assistance of local community leaders and police support.

Commending the overall performance, Commissioner Memon particularly praised district Jamshoro, calling its efforts “exemplary.” He urged all districts to avoid operational lapses and ensure the successful implementation of the campaign.

The meeting concluded with an emphasis on continued interdepartmental coordination to ensure every child under the age of five is vaccinated and protected against polio.
