5.8 magnitude jolts Japan’s Izu Islands

Islamabad: A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 5.8 rocked Izu Island, Japan, at depth on Tuesday. The epicentre of the temblor was located off the coast of Japan’s northwestern Miyako Island at a latitude of 26.5 degrees north and a longitude of 125.2 degrees east.
Tokyo, with its dense population, is the most impacted city. According to the media reports, several houses have collapsed, while other buildings suffer structural damage. The epicentral region is not densely populated.
According to the national media, the damage toll has risen and expected to rise more throughout the day. Tokyo has declared emergency in affected areas, where injured people were given first aid.
Earlier, approximately 2,500 people were killed when a 6.8 magnitude earthquake rocked Morocco late at night on September 9. More than 200 people were hurt as a result of the tragedy. The earthquake’s epicenter was at a shallow depth of 18.5 kilometres. It happened roughly 72 kilometers south of Marrakesh and 56 kilometers west of the Atlas Mountains.
