Beijing: A 5.1-magnitude earthquake struck southern Java, Indonesia, on Saturday, according to the German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ). The quake hit at 0537 GMT and had a depth of 10.0 km. The epicenter was located at 9.97 degrees south latitude and 112.47 degrees east longitude.

No casualties or major damage have been reported, but the quake was felt in several cities across the region, including Malang, Surabaya, and Yogyakarta.

Indonesia is located in the Pacific Ring of Fire, an area of intense seismic activity where tectonic plates collide. The country is prone to earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanic eruptions.

The GFZ stated there is no risk of a tsunami from the quake.
