Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday directed the relevant authorities to prepare an action plan for the privatisation of the Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation (PASSCO).

Chairing a meeting to discuss matters related to the Ministry of National Food Security and Research and PASSCO, the Prime Minister also instructed the restructuring of the Wheat Board. He emphasized that the restructured Wheat Board should include representatives of farmers, the Land Information Management System, and PASSCO.

The Prime Minister called for effective measures to enhance the yield of wheat and other crops. He urged the relevant authorities to formulate an alternative strategy for wheat procurement by the federal government and to consult with provincial governments, as well as those of Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and other relevant departments.

During the meeting, participants were briefed on the Terms of Reference (ToRs) and the restructuring of the Wheat Board, as well as on increasing crop yields and reforms in PASSCO.

Federal cabinet members including Ahad Khan Cheema, Muhammad Aurangzeb, Rana Tanveer Hussain, Attaullah Tarar, and Ali Pervaiz Malik, along with Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission Jahanzeb Khan, PM’s Coordinator Rana Ehsan Afzal, and other senior officers attended the meeting.
