25 dead, 14 missing after boat capsizes in Nigeria

Abuja: At least 25 people were killed and 14 others went missing after a passenger boat capsized in northern Nigeria’s Yobe state, according to emergency services.
The boat was carrying residents returning from a local market, along with others engaged in fishing and farming activities, when it capsized in the Yobe River near Garbi town on Saturday night, the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency said.

Of the 52 passengers on board, 13 were rescued and are receiving medical assistance, the agency said in a statement.
“Search and rescue operations are ongoing, with security agencies, emergency responders and local community volunteers working tirelessly to locate the missing passengers and recover bodies,” the agency added.
