114 Criminal Gangs Identified Through Safe City Cameras
News Desk
Islamabad: Islamabad’s expanding use of smart surveillance and digital policing tools delivered tangible security gains in January 2026, as Safe City Islamabad helped trace 114 wanted criminal gangs, facilitated the arrest of 160 proclaimed offenders, and handled tens of thousands of emergency and citizen service calls across the capital.
According to officials, nearly 17,000 surveillance operations were carried out through Safe City’s camera network during the month, enabling real-time monitoring and the identification of suspicious individuals, vehicles, and motorcycles. These leads were promptly shared with relevant police stations for legal action.
The results underline the growing role of technology-led, intelligence-driven policing under the supervision of DG Safe City / DIG Traffic Muhammad Haroon Joya, who has overseen round-the-clock monitoring and coordination through the Digital Control Room.
A major boost came through the Punch Lab and Golden Hour systems, which played a key role in identifying 114 high-risk criminal gangs, strengthening preventive policing and early intervention efforts in the federal capital.

Officials said Safe City’s digital identification tools were also instrumental in tracking and arresting court absconders and proclaimed offenders, reflecting closer integration between technology platforms and on-ground law enforcement.
Beyond crime control, Safe City Islamabad expanded its focus on public facilitation and documentation. More than 8,000 public complaints were resolved through the Complaint Management System, while over 2,300 tenants and domestic workers were registered to improve security records.
Police facilitation centres, supported technically by Safe City, provided services to nearly 16,000 citizens during the month.
In terms of emergency response, 97,143 calls were received on Pucar-15 in January. Of these, 8,852 police-related calls were responded to with direct assistance, 11,712 callers were guided appropriately, while the remaining calls were categorized as non-emergency.
DG Safe City Muhammad Haroon Joya said Safe City Islamabad remains operational 24/7 to protect lives and property, urging citizens to use Pucar-15 or the One Info App to seek immediate police assistance in emergencies.
