1.68M Voters to Shape Political Landscape in Karachi East District

Karachi: The general elections will see over 1.68 million registered voters in Karachi East district casting their ballots to elect four members for the National Assembly and nine members for the Provincial Assembly of Sindh.
Data from the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) reveals that, following the latest digital census, Karachi East is the second-largest district in the Karachi division, trailing only behind Central.
The district encompasses the National Assembly constituencies NA-235, NA-236, NA-237, and NA-238, collectively representing a voter count of 1,687,810.
A multitude of candidates affiliated with political parties such as MQM-P, Jammat-e-Islami (JI), Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Tahreek e Labaik Pakistan (TLP), as well as independent candidates, are competing for seats in both the National Assembly and Provincial Assembly.
Out of 1687810 eligible voters, almost 50 percent of each male and female voter will exercise the right of franchise in the general polls.
The Election Commission of Pakistan, with the help of the caretaker provincial government, Sindh Police, Rangers, and law-enforcing agencies, has adopted administrative and security arrangements for the smooth conduct of general elections.
The District Returning Officer/Deputy Commissioner Altaf Ahmed Shaikh has said all required arrangements were made for the holding of the general polls in a transparent manner, and strict action will be taken against violations of ECP’s code of conduct.
The officials of the provincial Election Commission said all government organisations, including district administration, police, Rangers, local government departments, and other institutions, are bound to provide support to the Election Commission of Pakistan for conducting free, fair, and transparent general polls on February 8, 2024.
